5 miles, 5 years and a long road ahead

It’s our 5 year anniversary today and we’re chilling in Hanalei Bay, Kauai. lovassm2.jpgGot up early and got my run in, 5.5 miles. It’s humid and lush here, we’re in paradise for sure. Although life itself is pretty much paradise for us.

5 years ago today we were married on sacred grounds at Kukui Heiau, here’s the aisle I walked down [ click here ]. I remember that day as it was today and think that I always will. I remember telling myself, “remember how the sand feels between your toes, remember the texture of BJ’s hand as you hold it and remember how the sun feels on your cheek. Remember this now and you will never forget.” I haven’t forgotten and hope I never will.

We arrived last night to the coveted Hanalei Surfboard House and was greeted by fabulous host Simon Potts. Yes, the Simon Potts….ex Capitol Records exec who infamously signed Thompson Twins, Haircut 100 and Radiohead (which apparently didnt’ go over so well with Capitol…suckas!)

Got up early this morning, 5:45, BJ had already been up for an hour, I’m sure just waiting on my every move in hopes that I would wake up. Sunrise on the beach with coffee and random local dog encounters. Then we ran 5.5 in the fabulous humidity as the sky brightened up and the sun shined down on us. Then to town for more coffee, beautiful local fruit at a great coffee shop in town. Time on the beach, bodysurfing (I am the worst, BJ is the best) and back to the pad for some Mondavi, a block of cheese and some blogging.

Tommorrow is kayaking on the Wailua River and going for the long run on Sunday, 12 miles. PF Chang’s take that!

    Jess,

I loved reading this. Even drew a tear to my eye with your vivid description of how you felt on your wedding day…
